Exploring Christianity

Ethos and Worship Group

We now have an Ethos and Worship group within school. Gabriel, Jessica, Isabel, Oliver, Lily and James make up our group and have so far been very busy!

They decided as a group that the first School Christian Value that we would focus on would be ‘Compassion’. They thought that this was something that children at Farnley Tyas already did quite well within school, however they thought that we could extend this Christian Value to our wider community. People of Huddersfield that maybe homeless and how to help them was where the children’s thoughts ran to. ‘The Huddersfield Mission’ is where they ended their charitable search. The Ethos and Worship Group held ‘A board Games Night’ after-school, this was open to the whole school and children were charged to attend. The group advertised, organised, resourced and ran the entire night and managed to raise £166. The Ethos and Worship group then went on a trip down to ‘The Huddersfield Mission’ where they handed over the cheque and got some very valuable insight into how the charity runs from Paul, who runs the charity.

Love Thy Neighbour

Class One, at Denby First School, made us a most impressive model of their Church as a gift. Both Farnley and Denby, are the Church Schools that make up two-thirds of the Greenhills Federation. We value our Christian neighbours and work closely with each other at lots of different events. Class One at Farnley Tyas, were so impressed with the model that we wanted to know more about how they had made it. We decided to write them some thank you letters where we took the opportunity to ask them some questions.
