Our Spiritual School
Spirituality statement
Farnley Tyas First School is a Church of England school that is committed to encouraging the exploration of spirituality. Although we are grounded in the Christian faith and values, we recognise that spirituality can be found in all faiths and cultures.
As a Church of England school and a place where all can flourish, we aim to create an environment that will nurture people’s minds, body and soul. We believe that spirituality should influence all areas of education and life. Therefore, we ensure that our curriculum offer encourages deep thinking opportunities which contribute to pupils’ and adults’ spiritual development.
As a school we have defined spirituality as:
“Spirituality is not something that we can see; it is something that we feel inside ourselves. It is about awe and wonder; asking questions, inspiration and being aware of something ‘bigger’ than ourselves.”
We recognise that articulating spirituality can be tricky so with our children we refer to:
- A sense of awe and wonder
- The joy in feeling connected to others
- Encouraging curiosity
Working together with our school community we want to create a culture where no question is too difficult to wrestle with.
